La Paz

When people asked us about our trip – where we are headed, we would always tell them “La Paz” and truthfully we had really not talked much about an agenda past this point. It is now Christmas 2024 – our first in shorts and tee-shirts since we lived in Johannesburg! We spent most of the day on the boat with our friends and enjoyed a Christmas dinner of snacks and bites with beer. Finished off with an awesome sunset, good conversation and a couple of hectic games of dutch blitz!

Exploring La Paz kept us busy for the next couple of weeks and with a quick business trip for me (back to Toronto) in early January, we figured we would just hang out here until our friends Lynne and Randyl were due to arrive in late January.

La Paz is a wonderful city, with good beaches for the dogs to run (if we go early enough), good shopping (freezer is now full) and lots of great places to eat. Some of our favourite spots include J&R Ribs, 3 Amigos Cafe and El Mesquite Grill

A long walk along the Malecon provides amazing views of the harbour, and a bunch of touristy restraunts that play loud music until WAAAY after bedtime!!

We took a quick trip down to Cabo (rented a car) and picked up our friends Lynne & Randyl for a week of sailing around the nearby islands. A week was no where near long enough and the weather was surprisingly cool (but still better than Ontario’s January weather!). A circuit of Isla Espiritu Santos and Isla Partida was all we could manage, but enjoyed some great sailing and a half dozen tranquil anchorages. The water was still a little chilly for swimming, and wetsuits were the order of the day…
